Missing Persons

✅ Article By Anne-Marie Pearman & Reviewed By Zeynep Topcu

A missing person is someone whose location is unknown, and there is concern that they may be in danger or have been a victim of a crime. The first 24 hours are critical in any missing person case, so if you suspect someone is missing, please get in touch with the police immediately.

However, this definition does not apply to friends or family members you have lost touch with and now wish to reconnect with. In such cases, you can use the internet, social media or even hire a tracing agency to help you locate them.

What Should You Do If Someone Is Missing

If someone is missing, here are some steps to take immediately:

  • Start by searching the last known location, such as their home or the place where they were last seen, including hidden areas like the loft, garden, shed, or garage. Keep in mind that children can fit into small spaces.
  • Look for notes or clues the missing person may have left behind, such as a passport, bags, or items they might have taken.
  • Check your phone and email for any messages that might provide information about their whereabouts or plans.
  • Contact friends and family to see if they have any information or if the missing person has contacted them.

Time is of the essence in missing person cases. Therefore, do not hesitate to seek assistance immediately. The sooner we become aware of a potential missing person, the more likely we are to ensure their safety and well-being.

Remember, every moment counts in bringing a missing person back to safety and reuniting them with their loved ones.
